In February, our long-term colleague Dr. Silvia Adelhelm left innoFSPEC Potsdam to accept a new position at the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam. There she is head of the strategy and development division.

Silvia has been working with us for many successful years. With her background in business administration and her long-term experience in industry, she helped to transfer innoFSPEC findings into prosperous innovations. She had a determined focus on the productive outcomes of the project. Furthermore, she helped our team to foster transdisciplinary interaction and to develop new innovation approaches –beyond narrow natural science focus.

Colorful from A to B: Early on January 23, 2020, the first Potsdam Science Park tram left the factory building of the Verkehrsbetriebe Potsdam (ViP). The tram will now be used on various lines throughout the Potsdam city area. The middle module on both sides of the tram is decorated with a scientific image. On one side, you can see optical fibres from innoFSPEC (photo taken by Dr. Roland Hass).

So keep your eyes open in Potsdam, and you will discover the Science Park tram with "our" fibres on it!

Our second Joint Lab workshop will take place on Friday, 14 February 2020, in Potsdam Science Park. The workshop is planned as a full-day event starting on 9 am and deals with success factors for joint labs as longterm cooperations between academia, industry and society.

Renown speakers will present insights from practice and we will discuss these further together with our guests. The event is jointly supported by the University of Potsdam, Potsdam Transfer (Inno-UP), innoFSPEC and Fraunhofer Leistungszentrum, Golm. Scientists from various disciplines and institutions work in the development of biodegradable plastic with good product properties. In a joint project between TU Berlin and innoFSPEC, waste fats are used as raw materials. Our collegue Thomas Schiewe is responsible for inline monitoring of the underlying production process. The overall aim of the project is to develop a substitute for the relatively inexpensive conventional plastic, i.e. to make bioplastic as cheap and resource-saving as possible to produce.
