New Senior Fellow Network discussed potential of Nanotechnology

As already published here, innoFSPEC has been involved in the EU project "NanoPAT" since June this year. In the context of a new Senior Fellow Network on Nanomaterials at the University of Potsdam, experts from science and technology discussed the potential of Nanotechnology live on YouTube on November 9th. The interesting event with forward-looking insights can be streamed on demand (only in German).

innoFSPEC @ Analytica virtual from October 19 to 23, 2020

In order to bring exhibitors and visitors together nevertheless, Messe München has launched analytica virtual, sending a signal for the future of the lab industry: in times of digital transformation, corona is no reason to do without valuable business contacts and news of the latest products. Therfore our colleague and PhD candidate Stephanie Schlappa (Applied Analytical Photonic) will manage the interactive virtual exhibition stand of innoFSPEC at this year's Analyitica trade fair.

30 years of German Unity meets 30 smart minds

30 years of German Unity and a lot more to celebrate! Since 1999, around 600 initiatives have been funded by the programs "Entrepreneurial Regions " and "Innovation & Structural transformation" with resources of around 2.2 billion euros by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

As part of a series of interviews with 30 great scientists of the funding programs, our colleague Dr. Anne Hartwig (Applied Analytical Photonics) was interviewed on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of regional innovation funding of the Ministry. Her vision is that ecologically sustainable production technologies - such as photon density spectroscopy  - will be standard in 30 years!

PlasMark: 1 Million € project granted for detecting microplastics with Raman imaging

The research and innovation centers innoFSPEC, HIKE (Medical Department of Greifswald University) and Plasmatis (Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology, Greifswald) will launch a joint research project (Meta-ZIK program) to detect microplastics in cell tissues. For identifying harmful particles, innoFSPEC will apply and refine snapshot Raman imaging derived from hyperspectral astronomy techniques.

The BMBF will support innoFSPEC with 925,000 € including a subcontract for developing a new tailor-made wide field spectrograph.

The PlasMark project will start in October 2020 and will run until December 2022.

 

Bioplastics from food waste – Alternatives to conventional polymers

Together with a team from the Department of Bioprocess Engineering at TU Berlin our colleague and doctoral student Thomas Schiewe is investigating alternatives to conventional polymers. For the development of fully biodegradable plastics, the researchers wanted to avoid foods, such as corn or sugar cane, and came across waste fats. These are found in agricultural waste streams, the catering industry, or in the processing of food residues. To monitor the bacterial polymerization process in real time, the researchers use photon density wave (PDW) spectroscopy developed by innoFSPEC Potsdam. This enables them to optimize the harvesting of the bioplastics and increase the product yield.
