Chinese delegation visiting innoFSPEC Potsdam

Chinese delegation from Henan Academy of Science visiting innoFSPEC Potsdam

On 16th of November 2017, a delegation from the Henan Academy of Science (HAS), China, came to visit innoFSPEC Potsdam. Prof. Martin M. Roth gave an overview of the activities at innoFSPEC, followed by Thomas Schiewe for the introduction of the PDW technology, and Dr. Ziyang Zhang for the summary of the Astrooptics research targets.

Prof. Guocan Chen, representative of the delegation, also director of the Institute of Biology, HAS, was intrigued by the activities at Potsdam. He has expressed great interest to establish international scientific cooperation, in order to promote innoFSPEC technology in relation to the fast economic growth in Henan, central area of China.

innoFSPEC and astrOOptics seminar

innoFSPEC and astrOOptics public status seminar, 14 Nov, Potsdam

On 14th of November 2017, we give our next public status seminar hosted as a joint seminar by the innovation centers innoFSPEC Potsdam and ultra optics Jena (joint project astrOOptics). In the seminar, we plan to show the results of recent activities and research projects as well as prospects for 2018. During the subsequent poster session and lunch break, we are looking forward to discussing topics further with our guests.

The event will take place from 10 am to 1 pm at the Leibniz-Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AIP), An der Sternwarte 16, 14482 Potsdam.

Special seminar on nonlinear optics applications

13th Nov 2017 - special seminar on nonlinear optics applications

On 13th of November, we would like to invite you to our next special innoFSPEC seminar given by Dr. Masood Ghotbi from the University of Kurdistan in Iran. In case of questions and for further information, please contact Dr. Stefano Minardi ().

  • speaker: Dr. Masood Ghotbi
  • affiliation: University of Kurdistan, Iran
  • title: Frequency conversion of ultrashort laser pulses based on nonlinear interactions
  • location: Leibniz-Institute for Astrophysics (AIP), An der Sternwarte 16, 14482 Potsdam; Schwarzschild house, seminar room
  • date & time: Monday, 13th of Nov 2017, 3:30-4:30 pm

Abstract:

The coherent laser light in different spectral regions is needed for the applications in Science, Medicine and Technology. The standard laser sources normally have a special wavelength or a very limited tunablity. Nonlinear Optics has provided a solution for these problems via various nonlinear interaction schemes. By appropriate application of different second and third order nonlinear interactions, it is possible to cover a wide area across the whole spectral range from Vacuum UV to Mid-infrared. Because of the very small values of the nonlinear interaction coefficients (10E-12 and 10E-24 for second and third order nonlinearities, respectively) higher intensities of ultrashort pulses give them the priority for the efficient interactions. In this talk we will try to present the results of the successful application of different nonlinear interactions using femtosecond pulses for the efficient generation of tunable ultrashort pulses across the different parts of the spectrum.

About the lecturer:

Dr. Masood Ghotbi received his Ph.D. degree in Physics in 2005 at ICFO-Institute of Photonic Sciences (Barcelona, Spain) with a thesis focused on the theoretical and experimental investigation on frequency conversion of femtosecond pulses with BIBO nonlinear crystal. He developed later optical parametric sources at ICFO and Max Born Institute, Berlin. Since 2012 is working as the head of Physics department at the University of Kurdistan in Iran.

Exchange of experiences with IAC-TEC

Exchange of experiences with IAC-TEC, La Laguna Tenerife Oct 30 - Nov 3, 2017

Upon invitation of the Instituto Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) in La Laguna, Tenerife, Martin Roth visited IAC to give two seminars on the subjects of innoFSPEC science and transfer of knowledge and technology / innovation management. Intense discussions with IAC's newly founded innovation centre IAC-TEC revealed various similarities with innoFSPEC Potsdam. Both parties agreed to continue the exchange of experiences with the goal of future collaborations, in particular with a focus on innovation in astronomical instrumentation and medical diagnostics.

innoFSPEC fellows visiting the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing

Dr.-Ing. Anne Hartwig to present on innoFSPEC core technologies at the State Key Laboratory on Multiphase Complex Systems, Institute of Process Engineering (http://eng.mpcs.cn/), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. Dr. Hartwig gave a talk on "Photon Density Wave Spectroscopy as a new approach for monitoring the cooling cristallization from highly concentrated solutions".

The sponsorship of the German DAAD is gratefully acknowledged, allowing for in-depth discussions on how to link the German optical fiber instrumentation activities at innoFSPEC with the analytical challenges of Prof. Yongsheng Han's Chinese research team.
